TerreStar Has Plans for 2 GHz Spectrum
5/11/2007

Sprint-Nextel is not the only company with an interest in relocating broadcast auxiliary ENG and fixed links from old band-plan channels 1 and 2 in the 1990-2025 MHz band. TerreStar networks will use part of this spectrum for its IP-based mobile communications network using satellites and ancillary terrestrial sites. Last week it announced that the company had signed a letter of intent with the Government of Bermuda to take the first steps toward designing and building satellite operations facilities in Bermuda.

Robert H. Brumley, president and CEO of TerreStar Global said, "Executing this agreement with Bermuda represents a significant milestone for TerreStar Global and another step in globalizing our unique communications network. Bermuda has always been an active player in the space commerce industry and its unique location makes it a natural choice for our earth station. We look forward to a long and prosperous partnership with the government and people of Bermuda."

From Bermuda, TerreStar will be able to carry out satellite operations for its planned European network as well as operations covering North America.   Print Page
