Q. What kind of products or services does your company offer for broadcasters?

A. Our HD production equipment, which includes cameras and camcorders, multiformat switchers, decks and displays, are used by TV stations for prime-time episodic programming, newscasts and sports broadcasts, as well as by OB van companies, production houses and studios. The products range from entry-level HDV camcorders and the mid-priced XDCAM HD optical production system, to the high-end CineAlta family.Q. What’s new that you will show at NAB2007 that broadcasters should look for?
A. This year, we’ll continue our “HD for All” theme, but on an even larger scale. HD is now a practical reality, with an expanding range of tools and options for broadcasters at all levels of digital video production. This diversity is mirrored in the products we’ll be showing at NAB2007. Our XDCAM HD line is having great success in professional production, especially in news, as is the newest member of Sony’s HDV family, the HVR-V1U. That camera’s true 24p capability will give indie producers new levels of flexibility in capturing content in the field. Our CineAlta line is holding its position as the leading choice for digital 24p production. In fact, on the current prime-time TV schedule, 90 percent of the shows shot digitally are shot on CineAlta systems. CineAlta and the range of HD production gear recently helped to convert NBC’s studios in New York to HD, and they’re also found on the sets of the QVC network, “Good Morning America,” “Saturday Night Live,” and “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” among others. On the new product front at NAB, without tipping our hand too much, we’ll be demonstrating the new F23 CineAlta camera system, the Anycast Station with HD capability and the latest versions of our server-based content management and newsroom solutions. We’ll also outline plans for evolving our technologies; including the next generations of XDCAM and plans for a line of 4K digital cinematography workflow systems. Finally, NAB is no longer just a broadcast show. So, we’re going to put an even stronger focus on education, government, sports, houses of worship and hospitality; reaching key new markets where we can both expand the audience for our core products and work with customers in ways to develop solutions specifically for them.Q. How are your new product offerings different from what’s available on the market?
A. With any new products we develop, we try to ensure legacy compatibility as much as possible, build in multiformat flexibility and offer a range of products at different price points. On top of this, there is one thing that we believe makes Sony different from most other manufacturers: the breadth of our expertise and resources. We can leverage our deep heritage of innovation – on both the consumer and professional sides of our business – to create new solutions that combine the best of traditional audio and video production with IP-based efficiencies, resulting in a new way of working that today’s professionals require.
