Holophone Unveils Latest 5.1 Audio Products

April 25, 2008

Holophone showed at the NAB Show how its new D-Code multichannel Pro Logic II decoder can simplify workflow when editing audio input through its PortaMic 5.1 and H4 SuperMini Pro Logic II microphone encoders.

Designed for the desktop, the D-Code takes two audio channels encoded by the Porta-Mic 5.1 or H4 (or other two channel source), and decodes those two channels into six discrete audio channels.

The recording device is connected to the D-Code through two RCA inputs on the front of the device for transfer from a camera to a computer. Decoded audio is delivered by six RCA analog outputs or a multichannel USB directly to the user’s computer.

The six discrete audio files can be edited in any professional editing program, such as Apple’s Final Cut Pro, Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere.

“The H4 SuperMini was the first step in bringing surround to existing production technologies,” said Jonathan Godfrey, CEO of Holophone. “When the Holophone D-Code is combined with the H4 SuperMini and PortaMic 5.1, or used in conjunction with the new Holophone N-Code and our larger surround microphones, the transition to surround becomes easy for the crew in the field as well as in post.”

Users of the Holophone H2-Pro and H3-D can access the encoding technology of the H4 SuperMINI and PortMic 5.1 with the N-Code, which also debuted in the Holophone booth. N-Code takes six channels from the H2-Pro or H3-D and converts them to two channels, allowing audio to be recorded to any standard stereo recording device. When combined with the D-Code, stereo recordings are can fully restored to 5.1 channel surround sound.
