Southeastern Louisiana University has installed a Video Technics system for creating a file-based workflow for the school’s cable television channel. More than 600 hours of content for the “Southeastern Channel” is produced by the Hammond, La., School.
The addition of the Video Technics system with its two Apella LCS media servers, each equipped with two bidirectional channels, will allow the school to transition from a tape-based operational system. Also included in the system are 1.5 TB of network attached storage capability, a Video Technics Database server and a graphics server with a Chyron Lyric for CG requirements.
“The Video Technics solution gives us greater flexibility in the scheduling and playback process, enabling us to have fewer reruns,” said Rick Settoon, general manager of the cable channel operation. “The change will increase our efficiency in logistics and traffic as we move toward a tapeless environment, and we can already see an improvement in the quality of our footage on the Apella. I’m impressed with the ease and speed of operation with which we can move content from the editing workstation to on-air playback.”
The Southeastern Channel reaches 92,000 Charter Cable subscribers in four Louisiana parishes.
