Thomson Intros Grass Valley HD Telecine
Thomson has rolled out the Grass Valley Spirit HD Telecine, a high-definition version of its film-scanning platform. The next-gen unit shares its pedigree of optical and mechanical components with Thomson's Spirit 4K film scanner. The Spirit HD allows on-site upgrading seamlessly from HD content to digital intermediate post production, according to the company.

The HD telecine scans all SD and HD formats in 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 resolution. SDI, HD-SDI and dual link HD-SDI outlets are available, permitting the telecine to input to 1920x1080 intermediate post production. Both 35mm and 16mm gates are available.

Thomson envisions the HD telecine as a tool for transitioning major TV productions produced on film. The HD Telecine begins shipping this month and will be on display at NAB2007 in Las Vegas on April 16-19.
