Teen Launches Northern Michigan’s First HD News
“Local Edition,” which produces brief local newscasts for online and cable viewers, plans to begin producing HD newscast segments next Monday, July 21. The local service, which was started by a teenage entrepreneur, will become northern Michigan’s first local news program presented in HD.

Its five-minute newscasts are produced four times a week.

Charter Digital Cable plans to carry “Local Edition” on its Charter on Demand tier. An SD version of its newscasts has been airing under various titles, including “Charter Main Street” and “Headline News,” and offered in Cadillac, Manistee and Ludington. The casts also are available on the enterprise’s Web site.

“Local Edition” is the brainchild of 19-year-old Eric Wotila, who started the local service last March.

It’s produced in cooperation with Charter Communications.

TV Technology sister publication Television Broadcast interviewed Wotila back in March.
