Tampa’s WFLA Taps Miranda Kaleido-X for HD Upgrade

WFLA-TV in Tampa, Fla. (DMA no. 13), Media General’s flagship station, reports it has installed a Kaleido-X multi-image display processor at its news center facility as part of a station-wide upgrade to HD. The news center typically broadcasts six hours of daily news, as well as programs for other Media General stations nationwide.

The broadcaster’s new Miranda Kaleido-X is replacing more than 60 CRT monitors (some of which were redundantly showing the same source). The system is configured to display up to 48 sources across four 50-inch LCD screens, including HD, SD and composite video. The system allows the operators to send any source to any display in any position, at any size and in any resolution, without source-grouping restrictions.

A single Kaleido-X frame can accept up to 96 video inputs, and provide up to eight multi-image outputs, according to Miranda, based in Montreal. Multiple frames can be connected to address large scale monitoring requirements. The multi-image outputs are independent and the system can be configured for multi-room or multi-user environments.
