Research: OLED TV to Grow Fastest
A new report from market analyst DisplaySearch is forecasting a compound annual growth rate of nearly 170 percent for shipments of Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) TV panels for HD sets and digital signage over the next seven years. OLED technology, among other things, typically affords viewing in fairly well-lighted rooms, and from various angles, without noticeable brightness or contrast loss.
DisplaySearch had also issued earlier studies
pointing to a big leap in OLED shipments for DTV sets and other CE products.
Shipments of flat panels for all applications decreased 12 percent from the last quarter of 2007 to the first quarter of 2008 (typical, when seasonably adjusted). Panels for LCD and plasma television sets comprised 3.5 percent of those shipments, DisplaySearch said.
While most current OLED screens are used in small handheld devices, larger screens for HD sets will be produced by various major manufacturers such as Panasonic, LGE and Sony, the latter of which currently sells an 11-inch OLED TV
