Obama Nominates Clyburn to FCC
President Obama this week nominated Mignon L. Clyburn as commissioner to the FCC. If approved, Clyburn would replace Democrat Jonathon Adelstein, who is leaving the FCC to head up the Dept. of Agriculture’s Rural Utilities Service (RUS).

Clyburn has been a member of the South Carolina Public Service Commission since 1998, having been re-elected three times. She chaired the commission from 2002-2004 and is also past chair of the Southeastern Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners. She is presently chair of the Washington Action Committee of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) and also serves on NAURC’s Audit Committee and Utilities Market Access Partnership Board.

Clyburn graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree in Banking, Finance & Economics in 1984. Prior to serving on the Public Service Commission, she served for 14 years as publisher and general manager of “The Coastal Times,” a weekly newspaper in Charleston, S.C.
