NXTcomm08: Amino Unveils Basic HD IP Box
Amino Communications has developed a basic IP set-top box consisting of a single HD video output and no analog connectors or other typical add-ons.

The firm said such basic components (or a lack thereof) will allow it to sell the unit for about 20 percent less than more typical HD STBs—including its own the firm’s higher-end, multiplug, multi-option HD box.

The basic STB is being demoed this week (June 16-19) at NXTcomm08 in Las Vegas (Booth SL1026, LVCC). The new unit (model AmiNET130M) provides only a single HDMI connector. The STB has no DVR capabilities. The HD MPEG-4 STB is about 4.5 inches wide and less than 1.4 inches high—making it what Amino said is the smallest HD IP box of its kind on the market.

Amino Communication is headquartered in Cambridge, England.
