North American Flat-panel Shipments Up 9 Percent in June
Shipments for flat-panel monitors and business displays (HD, ED, SD) in North America rose 9 percent in June over the previous month, while the average street price dropped another 5 percent, according to research firm Pacific Media Associates
June shipments jumped about 64 percent on the year. Meanwhile, revenue only grew 28 percent because, according to PMA, the average street price was 22 percent lower than a year earlier.
The 30- to 35-inch LCD category was the most popular segment in June. It held a nearly 30 percent unit market share that was partially helped by a slight (6 percent) drop in average street price to about $1,250. Yet the Menlo Park, Calif.-based firm said the 40- to 45-inch PDP (plasma display panel) sets continued to lose market share--falling 6 share points month-to-month. (This plasma segment has undergone a 14 percent market drop in barely half a year since Q4 2005, PMA said.)
For June, Samsung overcame Sony to lead in flatscreen market share with 22.8 percent, while Samsung and Pioneer were in a virtual dead heat for revenue share (21.2 percent and 21.1 percent, respectively).
