Mobile World Congress: On2 to Demo Mobile HD
On2 Technologies, which focuses on video compression platforms, said this week it plans to demo its new HD mobile video scheme at the Mobile World Congress (Stand 1A55) in Barcelona, Feb. 16–19.

On2's exhibit includes new hardware design models for both mobile and other multimedia chip-set manufacturers, and is showing its latest mobile video software implementations, to include what it says is HD quality video, as well as previewing its "cloud transcoding service."

On2 first introduced its mobile device—the Hantro 8190 HD hardware decoder designed to support MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and H.264 for low-powered chipsets—at last year's Mobile World Congress. At this year's show, it will demo its latest video compression format, known as "On2 VP8."

On2 said its proprietary VPx codecs are now used in Adobe Flash video, Sun JavaFX video, Skype videoconferencing and Move Networks' online-streaming platforms.
