LeSEA Broadcasting, Grupo Televisa Tap Thales for DTV Transmitters
At IBC in Amsterdam, Thales announced that LeSEA Broadcasting selected its Paragon MSDC-IOT DTV transmitters for use at WHMB (Indianapolis), WHNO (New Orleans), KWHD (Castle Rock, Colo.) and WHME (South Bend, Ind). LeSEA previously installed Thales Affinity low power DTV transmitters at these stations and also at KWHH and KWHM in Hawaii. LeSEA has a Thales ULTIMATE DTV transmitter at KWHB in Tulsa, Okla. "We chose Thales DCX Paragon transmitters because of their superior design, high reliability, as well as significant operational cost savings realized from the increased transmission efficiency," said Larry Veborn, director of engineering for LeSEA Broadcasting.

Grupo Televisa of Mexico also picked Thales for DTV transmitters. At IBC, Thales announced that Grupo Televisa ordered ULTIMATE series transmitters to provide DTV service in Juarez, Nuevo Laredo, Mexicali, Matamoros-Reynosa, Monterey, Reynosa and Guadalajara. The vice president of transmission at Televisa Felix Araujo explained, "Televisa has been a leader in digital television productions and services including the world's first production and transmission of a soccer match in January 1998 and the first permanent DTV service in Latin America, starting on March 3, 1999. We transmit real high-definition programming like soccer, concerts and special events regularly and the Mexican audience is starting to understand the benefits of this new technology and still considers Televisa as a synonym of the best quality. Televisa sees the future of Television as a matter of convergence of digital services for multipurpose receivers, so an efficient introduction of the best equipment in our DTV networks and services is only our first step into this new era."
