FCC Freezes Broadcast Licenses and Transfers
The FCC's Media Bureau has placed a temporary freeze on applications for new broadcast licenses and transfers, following the Sept. 3 court ruling that enjoined the agency's new ownership rules from going into effect. The duration of the freeze on applications using Forms 301,314 and 315 was not indicated. The FCC said it will "issue a Public Notice in the near future providing further information regarding the filing of new applications as well as guidance on processing . . .applications that are currently pending."
A similar freeze was issued June 2, when the FCC first adopted its new ownership rules. That freeze was lifted in mid-August -- but a 30-day waiting period enforced after a freeze is lifted meant that no applications went through before the new freeze was implemented.
