Comment Date Extended in Continental Airlines/Massport OTARD Wi-Fi Systems Battle
As noted in RF Report for August 2, 2005, Continental Airlines filed a request for a declaratory ruling regarding whether certain restrictions on Wi-Fi antenna installations are permissible under the FCC rules for over-the-air reception devices (OTARD). The Massachusetts Port Authority, manager of Logan Airport, ordered Continental Airlines to shut down a Wi-Fi system that offered free Internet access in its frequent flyer lounge. The case has attracted much interest as it could affect other Wi-Fi networks in similar situations. The FCC, acting on a request from Massport, extended the deadline for filing comments in response to the Public Notice from August 29, 2005 to September 29, 2005 and extended the reply comment deadline from September 13, 2005 to October 13, 2005.
