Brazilian DTV Must Include Brazilian Technology
Agencia Brasil has been following the efforts in Brazil to select a terrestrial DTV standard. Last week, in the article Digital TV format will have to incorporate Brazilian technology, Agencia Brasil reporter Erica Santana said Brazil's minister of communication, Helio Costa, stated that whatever DTV format the country adopts, "it will have to incorporate technological innovation developed in Brazil."

The article said that Brazil can make up to 90 percent of the set-top decoders and needs only to import one chip for the boxes, which accounts for 8 to 10 percent of the cost.
