Beijing Digital Television Alliance Founded
Some 135 companies and institutions involved with digital television have set up the Digital Television Alliance. The group consists of eight work teams, and includes Tsinghua University (????) and the Haier Group.

The alliance includes groups proficient with digital television standards, chips, terminal products, programs, transmission, and signal reception displaying.

Foremost, the group will focus on the national digital television standards released last year by the State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television (SARFT). SARFT expects terrestrial digital TV be fully implemented in 2008 with analogue signals being retired by 2015. By the 2008 Summer Olympics, all eight urban districts of Beijing will be covered with digital television signals.

Sales revenue from the Chinese digital television industry is expected to reach 650 billion yuan by 2010.
