The Yankees Entertainment and Sports Network (YES) has launched YES Vision, a broadband video service offering exclusive programming and game-related video content.

Free to yesnetwork.com subscribers, YES Vision will rely on Wavexpress' WX technology to enable secure broadband distribution of video content at a quality level comparable to DVDs.

Comcast to add video, statistics from FOXSports.com
Comcast, a leading broadband Internet provider, has announced that its online Sports Channel on the Comcast.net portal will add access to more breaking news, video content from FOXSports.com, exclusive editorial content, real-time statistics, and interactive features.

The new online www.comcast.net Sports Channel lineup includes news, scores and standings from all major sports and leagues.

ESPN Burns to deliver keynote at HDTV Forum 2004
Bryan Burns, ESPN HD vice president of strategic business planning and development, will delver the keynote address at the HDTV Forum 2004 in Los Angeles Aug. 24-26.

Burns’ address, “Accelerating the HDTV Transition,” will lay out the sports network’s commitment to HD programming and ESPN’s efforts to pioneer HD production and distribution.

NHL labor woes could de-ice 2004-05 season
Labor disputes between NHL players and owners could cause a lockout, effectively de-icing the game for part or all of the season.

At issue is the owners desire to impose a salary cap in an attempt to right the financial ship. The players’ labor contract expires Sept. 15.

A lockout would leave TV networks, independent production personnel and teleproduction companies across Canada and the United States in the lurch, scrambling to fill holes in program and work schedules.
