Shenzhen Gionee taps Telegent Systems for free-to-air mobile TV handset.

Shenzhen Gionee Communication Equipment, a provider of mobile phone solutions to the People’s Republic of China, is using Telegent Systems’ mobile TV technology in its latest free-to-air TV handset, the Gionee A10.

The Gionee A10 features a chipset from Telegent that enables the reception of free-to-air analog TV signals directly from the phone, allowing consumers to view the same programming on their phones as they would see at home. Gionee plans to launch several more models of the free-to-air mobile TV phones this year, including those with larger screens.

Telegent has integrated its free-to-air mobile TV chipset within approximately 50 handset models across the world. The Gionee A10 model is currently available through Acorn International’s TV shopping network.
