Rohde & Schwarz analyzes MPEG-2 streams to ATSC standard


The DVM 100 base unit contains various tools for in-depth stream analysis such as PCR jitter and data rate measurement as well as a packet and service table interpreter.

Rohde & Schwarz will begin shipping the latest version of its DVM MPEG-2 Monitoring System this month. DVM has been upgraded with the additional capability of monitoring and analyzing MPEG-2 transport streams to the ATSC broadcast standard, including PSIP tables, as specified in documents ATSC A/65B and A/69.

The base unit, DVM 100, allows simultaneous control of two, three or four transport streams at data rates of up to 216 Mb/s. Adding a DVM 120 expansion unit increases the number of transport stream inputs up to eight with a maximum of 20 inputs per system.

As the components are only one rack unit in height each, network operators and playout centers can conveniently monitor a large number of transport streams in real-time and with a minimum of space requirements, the company said.

The R&S DVM monitoring system is designed for network operators (satellite, cable and terrestrial), operators of playout centers, system integrators and government surveillance operations. The monitoring results as well as individual stream content are displayed on a high resolution GUI.

The DVM 100 base unit also contains various tools for in-depth stream analysis such as PCR jitter and data rate measurement as well as packet and service table interpreter. These tools can be used for analyzing any of the transport streams connected to the DVM 100 or DVM 120 without interrupting the real-time monitoring process performed simultaneously.
