PVI creates virtual advertising for Fox MLB World Series

Fox Sports and Major League Baseball will include virtual advertisements behind home plate during the 2002 World Series, produced by Lawrenceville, N.J.-based Princeton Video Image. PVI will generate the virtual advertisements from a truck parked outside the Anaheim Angels and San Francisco Giants’ baseball stadiums.

Virtual home-plate ads during the World Series broadcasts first appeared during the network’s coverage of last year's Fall Classic. Ads will again be visible behind home plate during each half inning of play, and will feature MLB sponsors, MLB institutional ads and promotions for FOX programs.

"Almost all major league stadiums have rotating signs behind home-plate that are seen by television viewers throughout the regular season," said David Hill, Chairman, Fox Sports Networks. "This year, our goal is to fashion the virtual signs so they'll appear similar to that which fans are already used to. The only difference will be that these signs are inserted into the broadcast digitally by PVI."

MLB advertisers scheduled to be featured include: MasterCard, John Hancock, Budweiser, Pepsi, Gillette and Radio Shack. Promos for a number of popular Fox comedy and dramatic series will also be displayed.
