NAB to hold satellite uplink training seminar in September

The NAB will hold a satellite uplink training seminar at its Washington, DC, headquarters Sept. 27-30.

Attendees will learn about uplink operational practices, which minimize the risk of satellite transmission interference.

The NAB holds the course annually to assist broadcasters with meeting FCC requirements that a trained operator be present at all times during transmissions.

Participants will gain an understanding of satellite communications systems, equipment, operating guidelines and safety, and interference management techniques.

The NAB has trained more than 500 satellite uplink operators, engineers and engineering managers from radio and television stations, universities and satellite services across the country.

Norman Weinhouse, of Norman Weinhouse Associates, will conduct the course. Weinhouse has more than 30 years of experience in the design, construction and management of satellite communications systems.

Joining Weinhouse as a guest instructor will be Sidney Skjei, P.E. of Skjei Telecom. Skjei has more than 20 years of experience in engineering and developing a wide range of hardware and software telecommunications products, systems and services. He is highly knowledgeable in all major satellite communications market areas: global, U.S. domestic and military. Weinhouse's 200-page textbook will be used as a basis for the course.
