MSNBC.com partners with NBCSports.com for online sports platform

In an effort to boost its online audience, NBCSports.com and MSNBC.com have announced a partnership that will create a new unified sports platform with increased sports video, photos, breaking news, fantasy sports and social networking capabilities.

The multiyear agreement makes NBCSports.com the official sports channel of MSNBC.com and NBC Sports. It combines MSNBC.com’s news coverage and original journalism with the original programming provided by NBC Sports on-air and online.

In addition to content collaboration, MSNBC.com and NBC Sports will combine advertising and sales efforts. “Partnering with MSNBC.com will enable us to successfully compete in the top tier of sport sites on the Internet,” said Perkins Miller, senior VP of digital media for NBC Sports and Olympics.

Though content sharing begins immediately, Mediaweek reported that a major re-launch and promotion of the partnership would occur in February, just prior to the Super Bowl.

The exclusive content on NBCSports.com includes Notre Dame football pre-game, halftime and post-game shows, “Sunday Night Football” wrap-around programming, “NBC Fantasy Fix Live” and “The Mad Dog Minute.”
