Luplow Elected ATSC Board Chairman

The Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) has announced the election of Wayne C. Luplow as the new chairman of the organization’s board of directors. Luplow, vice president of HDTV standards and promotion for Zenith, the U.S. R&D subsidiary of LG Electronics, has served on the ATSC board since 1992.

"Wayne’s wealth of experience in industry stands development combined with his dedication to the ongoing progression of DTV technology will make him a great chairman," said Mark Richer, ATSC President.

Luplow succeeds NBC-Universal’s Glenn Reitmeir, who has served as chairman for the last three years, and the limit set for holding this position as directed by ATSC bylaws.

Luplow is a Life Fellow of the IEEE and also serves as chairman of the CEA’s video systems engineering committee. He also was primary representative for Zenith in the Digital HDTV Grand Alliance research consortium that was formed in 1993 to develop an industry standard for high-definition digital television broadcasting. Luplow is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and the University of Pennsylvania.
