Inlet Chosen to Stream Winter Olympics Video
Inlet Technologies has been selected to provide Microsoft Information Services Internet video streaming of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games for NBC Universal, according to an announcement made by officials at the network, Microsoft and Inlet. Inlet’s Spinnaker encoding technology will be used to provide broadcast quality video of the live action sports.

“We approach every Olympics with the goal of delivering the best possible viewer experience,” said Perkins Miller, senior vice president of digital media for NBC’s Olympics division. “With Inlet’s Spinnaker, we’re able to take a major leap forward with advanced video player controls and the first-ever HD delivery of online Olympic Winter Games video.”

Inlet said that it would be providing high-definition streams in real time and at resolutions up to 720 lines.

“Inlet is proud to help NBC deliver the highest quality live streams of Vancouver Winter Olympics coverage,” said John Bishop, senior vice president of strategy and business development at Inlet. “Spinnaker, combined with IIS Live Smooth Streaming, will ensure that viewers have access to higher quality video and viewing controls than in the past, helping NBC to improve viewer retention and the time fans spend enjoying Olympic Winter Games coverage online. We look forward to being part of this monumental event.”

The Vancouver Winter Games will take place between Feb. 12 and 28 next year.
