Hitachi shows multiformat HD support
Hitachi introduced several new SD and HD cameras at NAB2004. The main advancement is that customers can now buy Hitachi’s HD cameras configured with native 720p CCD chips or 1080i chips (either IT or FIT). The company also showed a new HD POV camera for robotic applications. Their new DVD-R camera uses $12 DVD-RAM 2.8GB discs that hold up to 60 minutes of DV25 video.
The company also showed the ability to record on DVD-R discs, for around $6 each, which they say is ideal for those shooting and archiving with the same material. Hitachi personnel said the smaller disc size (8cm as opposed to 12cm) is less prone to vibration and other environmental conditions. The company also showed a digital wireless camera, based on Link Electronics technology.
