Gemstar-TV Guide lends IPG patent rights to MobiTV

Gemstar-TV Guide has signed a multiyear agreement with MobiTV for patent license rights related to interactive program guides (IPGs) for mobile video programming.

The IPGs will be available through the MobiTV service, both directly by MobiTV and via MobiTV on behalf of several mobile and broadband service providers — the names of which were not disclosed by the companies. The agreement benefits Gemstar-TV Guide by offering it a way to further expand its IPG products to mobile audiences, and MobiTV is a well-known provider of mobile entertainment content. Similarly, MobiTV will be able to offer its subscribers better access to its programming through the IPGs.
