Fred Rheinstein to Receive HPA Lifetime Achievement Award
Fred Rheinstein has been selected to receive the Hollywood Post Alliance’s lifetime achievement award for his work in the field of post-production. The award is given in recognition of individuals who have contributed great service to the profession and who have dedicated their careers to the betterment of the industry. It will be presented in a special ceremony on Nov. 1 at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.

Rheinstein, a New York native, began his career as a radio announcer in Newark, N.J. and later joined NBC Television where he served as stage manager for “Your Show of Shows.” He also worked with the “Bob Hope Show” and the “Kate Smith Show.” Other assignments included West Coast producer for the network’s “Today Show,” as well as on-site producer and director of the Gemini and Apollo missions from Houston. Rheinstein was assigned to Dallas during the Kennedy assassination coverage and was on-site producer and director when the live on-camera shooting of Jack Ruby occurred. He won an Emmy in 1971 for live coverage of a total solar eclipse.

After leaving NBC, Rheinstein established a production company in Atlanta. He later moved to Hollywood and in 1974 founded Off-Line Inc., an independent production company. This business later became known as The Post Group, with Rheinstein operating it for three decades. It was sold in 2005.
