Flat-panel unit sales predicted to rise by 41 percent in 2008

Pacific Media Associates predicts unit sales for flat-panel televisions and business displays worldwide will reach 113 million units in 2008. The firm’s quarterly “Worldwide Flat-Panel Display Forecast” predicts this 41 percent increase from an estimated 80 million units sold in 2007.

According to the firm’s research, overall average street price declined 14.7 percent in 2007. Overall street price is predicted to drop another 15.6 percent in 2008. Growth in the flat-panel display market is slowing from its torrid pace during the past two years. Unit sales in 2007 grew 86 percent over the 2006 numbers, and 2006 was 89 percent higher than 2005.
