FCC to discuss emergency communications needs of disabled community

A day long summit to discuss emergency communications and homeland security for the disability community will be held March 25 at FCC headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The Commission will bring together disability organizations, service providers, government agencies and other interested parties to discus the communications barriers those with disabilities face during national emergencies or terrorist attacks and ways to resolve them where possible.

The summit, entitled “Emergency Communications and Homeland Security Working with the Disability Community,” is an action item on the Commission’s homeland security plan.

Commission Chairman Michael Powell has been invited to address those attending the summit.

The summit will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. Open captioning will be provided for the event and other accommodations for those with disabilities will be available upon request. Such requests should be made at least five days in advance via e-mail to fcc504@fcc.gov or by calling:
