Envivio Encoders Help CCTV.com Launch IPTV Services
Using 80 Envivio 4Caster encoders, CCTV launched an IPTV service pilot project in Beijing in time for the start of the Olympic Games.

CCTV is one of the companies licensed to provide IPTV services in China and is the official Internet and mobile broadcaster of the 2008 Olympic Games in China. Envivio is a strategic partner to CCTV.com for the broadcast of the Games.

"This is an exciting year for broadcasting in China as local audience interest in the Olympic Games is at an unprecedented level." said CCTV.com President Wang Wenbin. "We are very pleased to have Envivio as an encoder partner as they have shown strong commitment to the Chinese market with their early implementation of the AVS standard."

The 4Caster encoders in use by CCTV.com are currently configured for MPEG-4 AVC encoding, but Envivio's software-based encoding core allows them to be reprogrammed to deliver content in the Chinese AVS encoding format without hardware modifications.
