490 DTV stations on the air
The NAB reports that 490 DTV stations in 145 markets are on the air. That’s about 30 percent of the total DTV channels assigned. Ninety-five percent of the network affiliates in the top 30 markets are on. These 145 markets cover 90 percent of U.S. TV households. In addition, 45 percent are in markets where broadcasters are delivering four DTV signals.
The NAB also reports that Washington, D.C. is the fourth city to receive the honor of being named a Digital TV Zone. Houston, Texas, Indianapolis, Ind. and Portland, Ore. were designated Digital TV Zones last January. The NAB says these cities have received the honor because of the cooperation between local community, broadcasters and retailers in promoting DTV.
