Crawford acquires satellite uplink truck company Starlink

Atlanta-based Crawford Communications has acquired the assets of Starlink, a satellite uplink truck company based near Chattanooga, TN. The acquisition adds a C-band, Ku-band and C/Ku-band hybrid to Crawford’s existing fleet, strengthening its standing as one of the largest independent satellite transmission services operators in the country.
Paul Edwards, vice president of Transportables for Crawford, said the deal would expand Crawford’s coverage area, while bringing expanded resources and services to Starlink’s existing customers.

Under terms of the agreement, Crawford has retained Starlink owners Chuck and Kathy Chappelle as well as its two operators, Tim McCormick and Ron Beasley.

Crawford Satellite Services, a division of Crawford Communications, now operates 13 Ku-band, two Ku/Production, one C/Ku-band hybrid and seven C-band satellite uplink trucks. The recent build-out of Crawford’s maintenance facility in Atlanta and the acquisition of Starlink's existing facility in Chattanooga have increased maintenance capabilities and reduced downtime of its fleet.

Crawford Satellite Services has performed more than 100,000 uplinks for clients in various industries, originates 135 full-time cable networks and provides satellite services for more than 500 clients. Its services include network origination and playback; domestic and international satellite transmissions; streaming media/webcasting; online services; fiber optics; satellite uplink trucks; multicamera production trucks; and studio and remote video production.
