CNN’s Christianson to receive SSPI honor for digital satellite newsgathering

The Society of Satellite Professionals International (SSPI) will present Arnie Christianson, CNN satellite and transmissions operation manager, with its Promise Award Oct. 9 at its Future Leaders Dinner in New York City.

The society’s Promise Award is given to young satellite professionals who have been identified by their employers as having the potential to play a leadership role in the industry.

Christianson has helped to transform the way CNN gathers news, developing a digital newsgathering (DNG) system that makes it possible to transmit live and recorded video at standard broadband speeds.

Derek Edinger of Space Systems/Loral and Hayley McGuire of Boeing Satellite Systems International also will receive Promise Awards at the dinner.
