CNN to rely on XDCAM HD for launch

CNN will use Sony's XDCAM HD Professional Disc system for studio production and field newsgathering as part of a network-wide commitment to the optical technology.

According to Sony Electronics, the network will begin using the XDCAM HD camcorders and decks for HD ENG and news production applications and will roll out the XDCAM HD system to its global newsgathering operation.

The Sony optical technology should help CNN supply high-quality HD native content for its upcoming launch of an HD network.

The network will also use the XDCAM system's interoperable file format and network-efficient data rates to help complete its transition to file-based news production.
