Canon offers new HD lens for ENG

Canon now offers five portable 2/3in HD EFP/ENG lenses, including the HJ17ex7.6B.
Canon Broadcast is developing 2/3in portable lenses to help broadcasters acquire local news content in HD.

Canon’s first portable HD lens, the HJ17ex7.6B, is designed for HD ENG cameras employing a 2/3in imaging device. The HJ17ex7.6B lens is smaller and lighter than its full production cousin, the HJ17ex7.7B HD lens.

Canon now offers five portable 2/3in HD EFP/ENG lenses. The new HD lens has a focal length range from 7.6mm to 130mm (or 15.2mm to 260mm with extender) and weighs 3.5lbs. A switchable aspect ratio (16:9 and 4:3) version of the lens with Canon’s Crossover option is also available.

At NAB2005, JVC and Ikegami both introduced three 2/3in CMOS chip HD camcorders. Canon plans to work with both companies and all camera manufacturers as they bring new CMOS and CCD cameras to the market.
