Broadcast Pix to intro new Slate switcher at IBC2006

August 7, 2006

Broadcast Pix, a Massachusetts-based maker of broadcast switchers, will introduce at IBC its Slate 2100, a production switcher with built-in graphics, clip store, monitoring and a host of new high-end features.

The Slate 2100 is the third product in the company's Slate switcher family, joining the Slate 100 touch-screen based system (from $9,995) introduced at NAB2006 and the Slate 1000 control panel-based system (from $18,795) introduced at InfoComm in June 2006.

Priced at $26,900, the Slate 2100 takes all the features of the Slate 1000 switcher, and adds eight to 10 live video inputs, “fail-safe” switching, a dual-channel clip store, a fourth keyer, tally and AES/EBU audio.

The company said Slate switchers enable a solo operator to create a sophisticated broadcast look that previously required a team of people. Solo operators can create live video with graphics, animated text, picture-in-pictures, keyed clips, spinning logos and robotic control of cameras.

The new “fail-safe” switcher feature allows the operator to continue switching a live production even if the computer malfunctions. If the computer or network goes down, serial control takes over and enables the operator to continue switching cameras.
