Belo news stations air more than 200 hours of political coverage during ’08 race

Belo-owned news-producing TV stations broadcast more than 210 hours of political coverage during the 2008 election season, the company said Dec. 4.

The 15 Belo stations that air news broadcast 115 local and national election-related stories each week between Sept. 22 and Nov. 3. That translates into an average of 140 minutes per station per week for the period. On its six regional and local cable news channels, Belo rebroadcast a weekly average of 357 election-related stories.

The company also provided 14 hours of free airtime to 140 congressional and gubernatorial candidates, according to Belo.
