Amazon buys CustomFlix

Amazon.com has purchased CustomFlix, the DVD-on-demand provider that allows television producers, including individual broadcast stations, to cost-effectively make and distribute niche DVD titles over the Internet.

The CustomFlix acquisition follows industry speculation that Amazon would be expanding its DVD operations, though those predictions have centered around the rental side of the business. Amazon would not disclose financial terms of the CustomFlix deal, which closed July 6.
