AES Convention tours to include KQED and Skywalker Sound

The Audio Engineering Society (AES) will host several technical tours at its 117th AES Convention Oct. 28 – Oct. 31 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

KQED-TV, the public broadcasting radio and TV facilities in San Francisco, will be among several technical tours available to attendees. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of its initial educational TV broadcast, KQED first began digital broadcasting in 2000. KQED's tour will take place Thursday, Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Attendees can also tour the Skywalker Sound facilities Saturday, Oct. 30 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The George Lucas audio post-production complex has produced some of the most successful films ever made, including: “Star Wars” films, “Forrest Gump”, “Terminator 2” and “Jurassic Park”. Skywalker Sound is rarely accessible to visitors.

Other planned technical tours include:

  • Redwood City-based Electronic Arts - Thursday, Oct. 28
  • Meyer Sound Laboratories - Friday, Oct.29
  • Fantasy Studios - Friday, Oct. 29
  • Expression College for Digital Arts & Center For New Music & Audio Technologies - Saturday, Oct. 30
  • Audium - Saturday, Oct. 30
