Adelstein confirmed to FCC

The U.S. Senate, by unanimous consent, has confirmed Jonathan Adelstein to a commissioner’s seat on the Federal Communications Commission board.

A former aide to Sen. Tom Daschle (D-S.D.), Adelstein will complete Commissioner Gloria Tristani's term. Tristani left the FCC to run as a Democrat for the U.S. Senate in New Mexico in the midterm elections. Tristani lost the election to Republican incumbent Sen. Pete Domenici.

Earlier this year, Adelstein's nomination became mired in a dispute over the Senate rejection of President Bush’s judicial nominations. The nomination moved to an affirmative vote last spring after then Minority Leader Trent Lott (R-Miss.) and Sen. John M. McCain (R-Ariz.) compromised with Democrats on other pending nominations.

Adelstein, 39, served as Daschle’s legislative assistant for telecommunication, transportation and art issues. He formerly served with the Senate Special Committee on Aging and was a legislative assistant to Sen. Donald W. Riegle, Jr. (D-Michigan).

He is the son of Republican South Dakota State Rep. Stan Adelstein, and the brother of Lt. Col. Dan Adelstein.
