Adelphia chooses Concurrent VOD platform in southern California

Adelphia Communications has chosen the MediaHawk 4G On-Demand Platform from Conurrent Computer Corp. for delivery of its VOD service in its Los Angeles market launch. Digital customers in the Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, West Hollywood and Beverly Hills areas will begin receiving the Adelphia OnDemand service by the end of November. The service areas represent a total of 63,000 homes.

Adelphia OnDemand will bring its digital cable customers a broader offering of movies and programs with DVD-like control of their viewing experience. The service allows customers to begin viewing available programs whenever they like, with stop, pause, rewind, and fast forward functionality. An additional feature allows users to view a selected movie as many times as they like within 24 hours at no additional charge.

Most of Adelphia’s remaining Los Angeles service areas will introduce VOD over the next 12 months. Customers in the enabled areas will have access to a wide variety of content offerings, some priced similarly to video store rental, others at no additional charge.

Concurrent’s MediaHawk 4G On-Demand Platform delivers video-on-demand (VOD), subscription VOD (SVOD) and free-on-demand (FOD). Concurrent’s fourth generation architecture includes hardware, extensive software, integration expertise and customer service for a complete on-demand solution.
