June 18, 2009
Philadelphia’s WPVI-TV is nearing completion of a new digital news production facility and has selected a full complement of Grass Valley high-definition equipment for the project.
The ABC O&O station plans to place the new operation on the air in September and is constructing it around GV products that include a Trinix 352x352 router, a 4 M/E Kayak production switcher, mirrored K2 Summit servers, and the Aurora news production platform, which will provide complete ingest, playout and editing functionalities. The Aurora system includes 75 browse seats and 12 Edius nonlinear editing workstations.
"The focus for WPVI-TV, from day one, has been all about workflow and implementing the right systems that would bring flexibility to their news, production, and product distribution systems," said Jeff Rosica, senior vice president of Grass Valley. "These systems and technologies provide WPVI-TV with the cost effective, multi-platform content distribution solutions needed to remain competitive in the tough Philadelphia market. Grass Valley has enjoyed a good working relationship with WPVI-TV through the years and we are happy to continue that relationship."
Three years ago, WPVI-TV became the first Philadelphia station to transmit high-definition news.
