Tennis Channel Hopes for ‘Net’ Gain from New HD Facility

Keeping a sharp eye on the bouncing ball just got a whole lot easier for avid tennis fans. The 24-hour Tennis Channel has relocated its production and operations activities to a state-of-the-art digital facility to Culver City, Calif., near its headquarters.
The move this week coincided with the sports channel’s launch into HD content on New Year’s Eve with its first high-def carrier—satellite firm DirecTV, according to the Tennis Channel.
The Tennis Channel had been using the facilities of Fox Sports in Los Angeles since its startup more than four years ago. The channel said it had its new DTV infrastructure designed specifically to most easily accommodate “future media platform development and international broadcast growth.”
After nearly nine months of construction, the finished facility boasts a 5,000-square-foot production stage on its main level. The second level includes a smaller set, two production control rooms, a voice-over studio and a green room for guests. The Tennis Channel’s headquarters are in Santa Monica, with sales offices in New York and Atlanta.
