Radio Sweden International reported that with the exception of the public TV channel SVT1, Sweden has ceased analog TV transmissions on the island of Gotland. The public station's analog transmitter will be shut off in two weeks. Radio Sweden said that only 23 percent of Swedish households rely on off-air TV signals. The head of Swedish Television proposed that the government pay for simple converters for households, but the plan was rejected. The article said that, "According to reports, many Gotland residents have not bought the necessary equipment to continue watching television."
All analog TV transmitters in Sweden should be shut off by the time Britain starts its DTV transition in 2008.
