SID 2007: Samsung Receives Gold Award for LCD Display

Samsung Electronics is showing its thin-film transistor, liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) panels this week at 45th annual Society for Display 2007 exhibition in Long Beach, Calif.

The firm's 40-inch LCD unit with LED backlight has been awarded this year's SID Gold Award for Display of the Year. The LED-backlit display has a contrast ratio of 10,000:1 and color saturation that it said is 105 percent of the NTSC standard. The LED backlight technology creates noticeable improvements in picture quality, Samsung said.

The firm also said its 70-inch display, is also being demoed at SID 2007 (May 22-24). The mammoth unit houses proprietary 120 Hz "motion-compensated frame interpolation technology" and has an image refresh rate about twice the speed of typical 60 Hz models (thereby doubling frames per second), according to Samsung.
