Sharp Sues Samsung Over LCD Patents

In the battle for technical supremacy, Japan and South Korea are at war. Sharp is taking South Korean maker Samsung Electronics to court over alleged infringement of three of Sharp’s patents pertaining to HD LCD technology.

Sharp filed the complaint in Central District Court in Seoul, claiming its patents cover technology used in LCD TVs manufactured and sold by Samsung and is asking the court for compensatory damages, according to published reports in Asia.

The patents pertains to technologies that “achieve high brightness and high-speed response, as well as a wide viewing angle, by regulating and stabilizing the alignment of the LCD modules,” according to reports of the court filings.

Sharp had also filed suit in America last summer regarding a similar alleged infringement against Samsung and its U.S. subsidiaries, which is pending.
