Scripps Networks has installed an OmniBus automation system at its Knoxville, Tenn. broadcast headquarters. The new automation system will support Scripps Networks' standard networks including Great American Country, as well as two new services -- HGTV HD and Food Network HD -- being launched this spring.
"Our new OmniBus automation system brings more advanced and flexible technology into our facility while making it possible to add new HD and SD networks to our current offering," said John Ajamie, Scripps Networks senior vice president of broadcast operations and maintenance engineering.
Scripps Networks will gradually migrate all its networks including HGTV, Food Network, DIY Network, FINE LIVING TV NETWORKS, from its existing automation system to the new OmniBus system. With systems integration, testing, and training complete, the Scripps broadcast facility also is prepared to commence playout of the company's two new high-def network services.
The OmniBus system controls a leading video server system, acting as a file server, and a hierarchical storage management (HSM) archiving system. The new playout infrastructure enables easy launching of both SD and HD channels, and it will scale easily to meet the demands of Scripps' network growth.
