Sanyo and Magis Networks will demonstrate a prototype Sanyo wireless TV system at the 2003 International Consumer Electronics Show Jan. 9-12. Magis developed the Air5 chipset to enable wireless communication through video, audio and Internet data and is incorporating it in Sanyo's wireless TV to enable transmission and reception of real time video.
The Sanyo CES demonstration will feature the wireless TV access point and remote terminal with Air5 chipsets transmitting and receiving video at up to 30 Mbps. Masamichi Kawakami, CTO of Sanyo Electric Semiconductor Company, says that the wireless TV "is an enormous benefit to the consumer who will soon be able to watch our Sanyo portable television anywhere in the home without concern for power or cable connections."
Sanyo is also an investor in Magis, which recently closed an oversubscribed $45 million Series B round. Other investors in the San Diego-based chip manufacturer include AOL Time Warner, Hitachi, Motorola, Panasonic and Vulcan, Inc.
