Samsung Digs Deeper into DTV
January 14, 2005
Samsung unveiled its own DTV receiver chip, the multiformat S5H1406 at CES 2005. The chip handles 8-VSB and QAM, and uses a proprietary algorithm, advanced demodulator and synchronization detector, high-performance equalizer and forward-error correction. It will hit Asian markets early this year, according to the company.
The Seoul, Korea-based electronics maker also struck an interactive development deal with Time Warner to produce and sell interactive digital TV sets compatible with the 8-VSB and the Open Cable Applications Platform, or OCAP. The deal was announced at CES, where Samsung also announced an alliance with Charter Communications to make DTV set-top boxes and receivers.
